CALHOUN JEWELERS AWARDED PA JEWELER OF THE YEAR

 

Royersford, Pa.----October 18, 2008---Calhoun Jewelers, one of the area's most trusted jewelers, announced today it has been bestowed the honor of Pennsylvania Jeweler of the Year by the Pennsylvania Jewelers Association.

During the 2008 Annual meeting of the Pennsylvania Jewelers Association in Camp Hill, Pa. Cathy Calhoun was awarded the state's "Jeweler of the Year" for her community efforts and "active participation in the building of a
better jewelry industry in Pennsylvaina."  The Pennsylvania Jewelers Association is an affiliate of Jewelers of America (JA) which is the largest retail trade organization committed to Consumer education, as well as educating
retailers.

"We are proud and very excited to recognize Cathy Calhoun with this award," said Karen Fanelli, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Jewelers Association. " She has continued the level of excellence for Calhoun Jewelers with her
compassionate community involvement and continuous support for the jewelry industry."

Representatives from the Pennsylvania Jewelers Association, including Pa. Jewelers Assoc. President, Jon Barry DiNola and Board Director, Rick Franchi, presented Cathy with the award on Wednesday, December 10, 2008
at 10:30am in her store.  The store is located at 500 Main St, Royersford, Pa.

The Pennsylvania Jewelers Association award reads as follows: "Outstanding Jeweler of the Year Award presented to Cathy Calhoun in recognition of her untiring efforts on behalf of her community and her active participation in the
building of a better jewelry industry in Pennsylvania from the Pennsylvania Jewelers Association on October 18, 2008."

Cathy owns and operates Calhoun Jewelers, a retail jewelry store, in Royersford, Pa.  She also owns Avanti Development, LLC, a commercial land development company, Main Street Cafe, and Spring City Elderly Housing.
She is a GIA Graduate Gemologist and an American Gem Society Certified Gemologist Appraiser.  She is the current President-Elect of the American Gem Society and Executive Board Director for the American Gem Society.
She is the Past President of both the Gemological Institute of America Alumni Association, Delaware Valley Guild and the American Gem Society Alumni Keystone Guild.

She has appeared on numerous television programs, including PBS's Antiques Road Show, Good Morning America, and World News Tonight.  Aside from her passion for jewelry, Cathy is also a first degree black belt in karate,
a licensed private pilot, scuba diver, gem hunter, and road rally driver.
